Kaspersky Lab introduces Kaspersky Internet Security – multi-device 2016
With new improved user privacy protection features
Kaspersky Lab presents Kaspersky Internet Security – multi-device 2016, the new version of its flagship consumer product, which is already available in Greece. Kaspersky Internet Security – multi-device 2016 was specially designed to protect what is most important to users, such as privacy, data, digital identity, money and their device itself. The new solution includes upgraded technologies, ensuring that users are protected, regardless of how they use their devices online and the platforms they choose (Windows, OS X or Android).
In addition, a number of new features have been added to protect users' privacy.
As the Consumer IT Security Risks 2015 survey showed, the number of Internet users concerned about online privacy has increased significantly compared to last year. 67% of European users are worried about someone gaining access to their personal files, while 60% fear that there may be programs that collect information. That is why 46% said they do not trust their webcams, which could be used to spy on the owners of a device. Based on the above issues, security solutions must find new ways to ensure the protection of users' privacy. The new version of Kaspersky Internet Security – multi-device 2016 has been developed with this in mind, incorporating new technologies for privacy protection.
Social networks, advertisers and data analytics companies often request information about users’ search activities, locations, search history, etc. They access this information through the browser and can resell it and use it to display targeted advertising messages to the user. The Private Browsing tool removes this data from Internet traffic and reports any “blocked” requests to the user via a special plugin, which is available for Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome. technology differs from other tools built into browsers. The new solution does not simply prevent users from being tracked via cookies and is not limited to informing websites that the user does not wish to transmit data that could contribute to tracking their movements. It truly guarantees that this data will remain only on the device.
Another common issue is the integration of additional extensions into a device without the user's knowledge, when free software is installed on it. These changes could affect the browser's homepage and default search engine, or install additional plugins and/or extensions, etc. In addition, network and system settings could be modified without the consent of the device owner. All of this could potentially invade the user's privacy, as some plugins and extensions may also collect information about users and their online behavior and use this information for various purposes. The Change Control* feature detects any process that attempts to introduce such changes, reports the incident to the user, and requests that the process be either explicitly allowed or blocked.
“Privacy is an inalienable right for everyone, whether in the real or virtual world. That is why at Kaspersky Lab we do everything we can to protect everything that is valuable to our users – their personal files and private lives – from cybercriminals and other curious Internet visitors. Of course, these measures are more effective if users follow safer Internet browsing practices ,such as protecting their devices and accounts with strong passwords, avoiding downloading files from untrusted sources, and performing regular scans for digital threats on their computers,” said Peter Aleshkin, Head of Consumer Product Management for Emerging Markets at Kaspersky Lab.
In addition, the updated Privacy Cleaner tool helps remove all traces of user activity from a Windows computer, as well as remove browser history, the list of recently opened documents, etc. In turn, the Webcam Protection function prevents images from being intercepted from the webcam, notifies users when it is accessible by legitimate applications , and provides the ability to block any access to it.
As the digital threat landscape is constantly evolving, Kaspersky Lab recommends that users regularly update their security products with the latest versions to ensure they have all the new and advanced security tools installed. In this context, Kaspersky Internet Security – multi-device 2016 includes free automatic updates and upgrades, while it can be managed remotely via your personal My Kaspersky account.
*Change Control is disabled by default. It can be enabled during product setup.
