Adding Private Browsing brings Vivaldi into the elite of browsers. The developers of the relatively new Vivaldi Web browser are making huge progress with their product, and now they've managed to add support for private browsing.

This feature was added to the latest Snapshot version 1.0.264.3, which was released yesterday, and allows users to browse the Internet safely, without being tracked by various ad publishers or services.

Vivaldi can be a little different from other browsers, so to start a new private browsing window, click the Vivaldi icon in the top left corner of the browser window, select File, then “ New private window.”

This opens a new window, and you will be able to see a new icon in your URL bar that looks like a hat and glasses, the universal icon for anonymity and privacy.

Since this is a Snapshot, Vivaldi developers urge users to be cautious, “Please review this carefully. Since it is our first application it may not be without bugs. Let us know if you find any ways to leak data. [.. .] Private Windows on Mac look the same as regular windows.”

The problematic CTRL + Q keyboard shortcut has been removed.

Other significant changes have also been made to the Web Panel, allowing two web pages to open in the same window, which now has a smaller title bar. A menu option has also been added to allow users to remove the title bar in the Web Panel, and the back and forward buttons have been replaced by a “Home” icon, which takes the user back to the original Web Panel URL.

A bug that was causing huge problems for Linux users was also fixed, and that was the CTRL + Q browser shortcut.

This command is universally designed to close applications on GNU/Linux machines, so when Vivaldi users wanted to access the Quick Commands panel, which this shortcut opens in Vivaldi, they were closing the entire browser. This has been removed in the latest Snapshot, and users can now navigate to whatever they want using the previous Vivaldi keyboard shortcut.

You can download the latest snapshot of the Vivaldi browser from Softpedia, for Linux, Mac OS X, or Microsoft Windows. Remember, this is a pre-release, not suitable for production use, so expect some crashes from time to time.
