PRESS RELEASE – The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (CDP) continues its targeted multi-month investigations, as part of a global online operation codenamed "Pacifier", to combat child pornography via the internet.
The involvement was identified and a case was filed against a 28-year-old Greek national in Lefkada, for child pornography via the internet
The Hellenic Police's Cybercrime Directorate (CID) continues its targeted, multi-month investigations, participating in the global operation to combat child pornography, codenamed "Pacifier" (Related CID Press Release from 20-08-2015). In context , it identified the involvement and filed a case against a 28-year-old Greek national, in Lefkada, for child pornography via the internet.
Specifically, within the framework of the aforementioned operation, a multi-month investigation was conducted on the TO R network, to identify users involved in the possession and sharing of child pornography. Specifically, on a special "hidden service" platform of the said network, which was seized by the U.S. authorities, exclusively content with sexual abuse of minors was identified.
A thorough digital analysis of the case data followed, which revealed electronic traces within Greek territory. This information was brought to the attention of the Athens First Instance Prosecutor's Office, which issued a relevant order to lift the confidentiality of the communications.
The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (CDP) immediately conducted a thorough and in-depth police and digital - online investigation of the evidence and data and identified an electronic trace in an internet connection, which corresponded to the 28-year-old Greek national.
Subsequently, a team of police officers from the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE) went yesterday (25-08-2015) to the above-mentioned person's residence in an area of Lefkada and, in the presence of a Judicial Officer, conducted a legal search of the digital media in his possession. From the on-site inspection, the involvement of the 28-year-old in the alleged acts was identified.
During the investigation the following were found and seized:
- two (2) internal computer hard drives,
- one (1) laptop computer and
- one (1) external computer hard drive.
The seized digital media will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for further laboratory investigation.
The regular procedure file formed will be submitted to the Lefkada First Instance Prosecutor's Office.
