PRESS RELEASE – The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (CDP), through the online process "CYBER ALERT", contributed to the prevention of another case of suicide, which occurred via the Internet

As it was determined, this is a 15-year-old Greek national, residing in Germany

All necessary actions were taken immediately and effectively to physically locate her and, in close cooperation with the SIRENE department of the International Police Cooperation Directorate, her physical integrity was ensured

DIE | CYBER ALERT & SIRENE prevented suicide of 15-year-old in Germany

The Directorate for the Prosecution of Electronic Crime (DIE), through the innovative online procedure "CYBER ALERT", prevented another case of suicide, which occurred via the Internet by a 15-year-old Greek woman, resident of Germany. All necessary actions were immediately taken to physically locate her and, in close cooperation with the SIRENE section of the Directorate for International Police Cooperation (D.DAS), her physical integrity was ultimately ensured.

In more detail, the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE) was informed in the afternoon hours of 20-06-2015, by telephone and via e-mail, that a user of a social networking website expressed his intention to commit suicide, through a relevant post he madeon.

A thorough police and digital investigation was immediately carried out by officers of the Cybercrime Investigation Directorate (DIE) to find the identity and place of residence of the person in question. The result was the accurate and immediate identification of the 15-year-old girl, in a city in Germany. The German authorities were immediately informed, through the SIRENE department of the D.D.A.S.

Through the appropriate use of the evidence and in the context of thorough investigations, the 15-year-old local was identified, who expressed her intention, and her physical integrity was immediately ensured.

The pre-investigation material collected will be submitted to the competent Prosecution Authorities.
