In which professions will robots take our place ? – Economists have been divided on exactly when the threat from robots and other forms of future technology will materialize. Some believe that it already exists, others estimate when it will arise at the end of this century, according to CNN.
But Amy Webb, a digital media expert who founded Webbmedia Group, predicts that at least eight professions will soon be extinct. And when she says "very soon," she's talking about the next 10 to 20 years.
As he said at a global conference in Los Angeles recently, these 8 jobs are:
1. Toll booth and cashier jobs. The spread of wearables and mobile payments will make such jobs essentially obsolete. “There won’t be a need for a person everywhere,” he says.
2. Advertisers. The powerful advertising tools of the future could allow brands to deliver their messages to customers with pinpoint accuracy. Already, Webb explained, new experiments are being conducted with technologies that study consumer behavior to determine what types of ads will be most effective. If these “tools” work, they could lead to smaller teams at advertising and marketing companies.
3. Customer service. IBM's Watson supercomputer can, among other things, replace everyone working in such a company department, according to Webb.
4. Factory workers. Robots will "steal" even more jobs in industry from humans, as they are cheaper solutions and do not require... breaks.
5. Financial intermediaries. Blockchain, the computer program behind Bitcoin, has the ability to automatically process transactions and create a perfect, reliable digital record. This could create problems for intermediaries in the banking, insurance, or mortgage sectors.
6. Journalists. The internet has wiped out countless newspapers, and now new technology could kill even more jobs. Webb, a former journalist herself, says the next step will be algorithms that allow news agencies to automatically generate stories and post them on websites, without human intervention but through robots.
7. Lawyers. Webb believes that many will be replaced by electronic services that can handle simple tasks, such as trademark applications, wills or even divorces.
8. Telephone workers. Many no longer have landlines, a trend that is expected to spread as digital communication advances. This means that positions such as billing or operator positions could disappear at landline companies.
