DIE: 13-year-old confesses to domestic bullying – A 13-year-old boy is living a nightmare as he experiences "bullying" within his own family.
The child confessed the drama that lives behind the closed door of the children's room to the officers of the Cybercrime Investigation (DIE): "I can't take it anymore. My parents are pressuring me incredibly about my performance in school. 'You're a nobody with these grades. You'll grow up and become a nobody if you keep going like this. Don't you see your older brother who gets A's in all his subjects?', they keep telling me. I want to leave the house. This torture needs to end.".
The 13-year-old - a student with grades around 13 - chose, shortly before disappearing, to call the Cybercrime Investigation Unit (CID), which has recently launched campaign in schools about issues that are troubling students.
His move proved to be life-saving, as the competent police officers managed to provide a – albeit temporary – solution to the problem by talking to the parents. It was striking that the “bullying” against the 13-year-old also began to be practiced by his own 15-year-old brother, who, imitating his parents, began to unleash the same characterizations (“Mr. Nothing”) against him.
A senior officer of the Hellenic Police explains that this is one of the good cases. And this is because children who speak avoid the worst, unlike silent - drowning in stress and pressure - minors who may even "quietly" commit suicide.
What is worrying is this year's alarming increase in the number of students expressing their despair to the competent police department, as well as the increase in minors expressing their intention to end their lives because they cannot bear the pressure to study more. The escalation of the phenomenon has been observed since the beginning of last April, apparently because the examination period is approaching.
Information indicates that for the first time, students are calling the offices of the Cybercrime Investigation Service themselves and asking to speak with the head, Mr. Manolis Sfakianakis, who is known to them from television and the lectures he gives from time to time. According to reliable sources, in the last month alone, 20 minors have contacted Mr. Sfakianakis and the deputy commander of the service on their own initiative.
To these must be added the cases of children who attempted suicide in 2015 and were saved at the last moment.
