Le Soir also a victim of cyber-attack
The website of Le Soir , one of Belgium's largest French-language newspapers, was hacked on Sunday night. According to the director-general, Didier Hamann, efforts are underway to identify the source of the attack .
“ Le Soir (has) been the victim of an attack on its IT systems,” Hamann wrote on Twitter, adding that there was “no tangible evidence to allow a connection to be made to TV5,” which was also attacked during Holy Week, with the Islamic State claiming responsibility, or to the attacks on Walloon authorities’ websites. He added that “the newspaper will be published this Monday.”
«A cyberattack was carried out against Le Souar, but we have no further information at this time», said the financial director of the Rossel group to the French agency, which publishes the newspaper as well as other publications.
According to the Belga news agency, the attack occurred last night at 19:30 (20:30 Greek time) on all websites of the Rossel group. Disabled for several hours, these sites were accessible again on Monday morning.
«We are trying to determine the origin of the attack», said last night the general director of Le Soir in Brussels.
The system was restored internally, while according to the general manager, the websites were disabled in order to prevent "infection" or the spread of the attack.
«“We are often the target of attacks, which are quickly contained», added Didié Haman. «But this time, the protective walls did not work as usual».
