Tanium has announced a new round of funding and an updated endpoint security platform. Endpoint Platform 6.5 integrates patching capabilities.

Tanium it has raised $52 million in a new funding round, bringing its total funding to $142 million.

The company builds an endpoint security platform that has now been upgraded to version 6.5. Tanium's founders come from BigFix, which IBM in 2010.

Orion Hindawi, co-founder and CTO of Tanium, said the new funding will help accelerate the company’s growth as it continues to expand around the world. Tanium’s current employee count stands at 175, up from 25 at the beginning of 2014, Hindawi said. By the end of 2015, he expects to have 600 employees, including engineers and sales and marketing professionals.

“We give our customers endpoint data in real time so they can see the current state of those assets and how they are changing,” Hindawi told eWEEK.

The new Tanium Endpoint Platform 6.5 provides additional features for control and security.

“We’ve moved to an HTML5-based console that allows for the addition of modules,” he said. “Before this release, we had a monolithic console that had to be compiled and then released, and now we have the ability to release different modules at different times and have them combine.”.

One of the modules available in Tanium Endpoint Platform 6.5 provides the ability to apply patches. Multiple studies in recent months have identified the lack of proper security updates as a leading cause of exploitation. Hewlett-Packard's 2015 Cyber Risk Report found that 44% of breaches could be attributed to patched vulnerabilities that were between 2 and 4 years old.

Tanium's platform allows organizations to check the status of endpoints in seconds and then be able to make changes in seconds, Hindawi said. There is now an interface in the new console for handling patches that includes a configuration window for scheduling patch applications.

“The real problem is that many organizations don’t know what systems they have, let alone which ones are up to date,” Hindawi said.
