Consumers are becoming less wary of mobile payments, with the skepticism surrounding security issues of previous years receding significantly. This picture is clearly reflected on social media, with relevant discussions showing that consumers are no longer questioning the security of mobile payments, but are discussing more about the possibilities of the digital experience via mobile devices.
The convenience of mobile payments and additional reward incentives are at the center of interest.
According to the third annual Mobile Payments survey by Prime Research, on behalf of MasterCard, technologies such as Tokenization and Biometrics are reassuring consumers and now, conversations on social media revolve around rich digital experiences on mobile.
The research, which captures consumer sentiment towards digital payments through 19.1 million social media posts over the past year, shows that the sentiment around mobile payments continues to improve: In 2014, 94% of global conversations were positive, compared to 77% in 2013 and 70% in 2012.
The most positive conversations were about innovation, loyalty programs, rewards, and the convenience of mobile payments.
