Men are the most frequent clients of "digital matchmakers"
"It is worth noting that one-fifth of users of these applications pay to access ... online dating," write the report's authors Jason Mander and Felim McGrath.
Last year, a similar survey by the Pew Research Center found that men are more active users of such apps and websites.
Furthermore, 13% of men in the US had used a dating app/website, while the corresponding percentage among women was 9%.
According to Tinder, users spend an average of 11 minutes a day on the company's app. Women spend 8.5 minutes, while men spend 7.2.
The company claims to have 40 million users, trailing Chinese dating app Momo, which has 60 million active users.
The GlobalWebIndex report says that location-based dating apps have started to become particularly popular in countries such as the Philippines, Thailand, Brazil, Mexico, India, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Vietnam.
