OR Google is looking for young inventors, explorers and scientists who envision changing the world, inviting them to apply online for the annual Google Science Fair. Students aged 13-18 are invited to submit their ideas, around two thematic sections: a) "It's your turn to change the world" and b) "What will you try?". Previous entries have included proposals such as: a flashlight that works with body heat, wearable sensors for elderly people and flying robots inspired by... flies. The Google encourages young inventors from all scientific fields, including biology, computer science and anthropology, to apply to the exhibition, which runs from February 18 to May 18. Prizes include $100,000 in scholarships and grants from Scientific American and Google, a trip on a National Geographic expedition to the Galapagos Islands, a visit to LEGO headquarters in Denmark and a tour of Virgin Galactic's new spaceship.
Science Fair finalists will travel to Google's Mountain View Googleplex Campus on September 21 for the final event.
Last year, Google accepted applications from more than 90 countries.
Last year's grand prize winners were three 16-year-old girls. Ciara Judge, Émer Hickey and Sophie Healy-Thow investigated the use of diazotroph bacteria to enhance and grow cereal crops with the aim of fighting world hunger.
