A criminal case has been filed against a 55-year-old man from Trikala, who was arrested in Patras, for child pornography via the internet. Specifically, after a digital analysis of information material, it emerged that the 55-year-old had been visiting various child pornography websites, while at the same time participating in virtual chat rooms, claiming that he had sexually abused children.
Also, as it turned out, he sent a sum of money to a foreign country, via courier, as a subscription to a pedophile website.
Additionally, the Cybercrime Enforcement Directorate was informed by a document from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Cybercrime Center (ICE), that the 55-year-old, after changing his email address, sent 39 photos of child pornography to third parties.
During searches carried out at the 55-year-old's home and workplace in Trikala, a computer hard drive and a memory card were found and seized, which were sent to forensic laboratories for further examination, while the pre-investigation material was submitted to the Trikala First Instance Prosecutor's Office.
On 17-01-2015, the 55-year-old was arrested in Patras, as an arrest warrant had been issued against him by the Trikala First Instance Prosecutor's Office.
In a search conducted on the laptop in his possession, 12,031 files of child pornography were found, with a total size exceeding 3.5 Gigabytes of storage space.
The 55-year-old was taken to the competent prosecutor's office and, after the execution of the arrest warrant, was remanded in custody.
