Complaints about citizens being defrauded in online markets in Greece are increasing and the Consumer Protection Directorate has issued instructions on what those who choose to purchase goods online should be aware of.
Specifically, in accordance with existing legislation, the following information should be provided to consumers:
– the identity of the supplier (e.g. its trade name)
– the supplier's postal address
– the telephone/fax number and e-mail address of the supplier and, where applicable,
– the geographical address and identity of the supplier on whose behalf it acts
Furthermore, the supplier is obliged to provide information before the purchase is made, so that consumers can exercise the right of withdrawal, but also be aware of the rights granted to them by the guarantee.
Following repeated complaints, the Consumer Protection Directorate requested the assistance of the Economic Crime Prosecution, while it has informed the competent Prosecution Authority to take the required administrative and criminal measures.
