Employees of the newspaper Eleftherotypia and the site are denouncing their exclusion from any access to the management system of the website enet.gr.
Despite his decision to suspend the strike action, the workers found that they still did not have access to the website, that the "blackout" continued.
The announcement of the employees of Eleftherotypia, Sunday Eleftherotypia and enet.gr:
"The employees and journalists on the website of the newspaper "Eleftherotypia" (enet.gr) were surprised to find that they were blocked from all access to the website's content management system!
This coup-like action, which refers to the blackmail of ERT, took place unexpectedly today at noon - it is unknown by order of whom from the management of the company that publishes the newspaper (TRITI OPSI SA). The blockade took place immediately after the posting of an announcement by Mr. Haris Economopoulos on the website (as a "response" to the workers' resolution that preceded it), a posting which is unknown by whom and in any case not by a journalist-employee of the newspaper.
The "blackout" on the Eleftherotypia news website continued after 17:00, today, Friday, November 21, when the workers decided to suspend the strike until Monday (after nine days of strike). The journalists-content managers at enet.gr continue to have absolutely no access to the "Eleftherotypia" website. At the same time, the journalists-managers were also blocked from the "Eleftherotypia" social media (facebook, twitter)! The public continues to be deprived of information regarding current news.
The newspaper employees denounce the provocative action - silencing of information and call on journalistic unions, colleagues in the media and organizations to take a stand."
This was preceded by the announcement by Haris Economopoulos:
"To Employees at Third View S.A.
With your resolution yesterday, which I was informed about by Enet, you demand your participation in the management and control of the issuing company.
This participation, which you had rejected as many times as it had been proposed to you, is accepted by the shareholders.
All that remains is for you to specify it from today until November 27, in an organized manner, even assuming share control, either by participating individually or through a cooperative.
To achieve the result you are seeking, the decision should provide for the capitalization of all your accrued earnings, so that you can also take over the management that your decision attempts to replace. The only limitation to the absolute financial, administrative and general control of the company by the cooperative you desire will remain the retention by the current majority shareholder of the right to appoint a member of the Board of Directors with a second signature for the approval of expenses.
Even after the company accepted the resignation, albeit incompetently, of the person who had been assigned the duties of director of the newspaper, it is not possible for the publication of the newspaper to resume until the above is completed.
From today onwards, there is no reason for me and my colleagues to be present in any employee dispute with the company.
From now on, you are on your own. I wish you all the best.”
The workers, after a meeting they held yesterday, Thursday, issued the following resolution::
"We, the employees of "Eleftherotypia", "Kyriakatiki Eleftherotypia" and Enet, in our assembly today, Thursday, November 20, decided the following:
We should request specific commitments from the issuing company for the immediate payment of a salary to all employees and a specific repayment schedule for the nine months' accrued wages owed by the company.
We expect Haris Athanasiou Economopoulos to implement his expressed desire - before the unions and representatives of the workers - to withdraw from publishing the newspaper
To prioritize the taking over of the publication of the newspaper by an editorial committee
To request an audit of the newspaper's finances, since we have already been unpaid for 9 months
To share with our readers the reasons that led us to the strike mobilizations and how they are escalating.
We should demand a control of advertising prices and their distribution, in a ratio of 80 to 20, between employee salaries and operating expenses for the publication of the newspaper. Just as printing costs are inelastic, the payment of salaries should also be inelastic.
In the event that 1, 2, 4 and 6 are accepted by the administration and there are no objections to 3 and 5, the Sunday and Monday issues will be published and at our next meeting, on Monday, November 24, at 2 pm, we will reassess the developments and decide on our next steps.
We call on our colleagues in other media to support our struggle
We demand the signing of a Collective Labor Agreement, and we emphasize that this is what our unions must demand
