After The Pirate Bayaround the world last year, another major website of the kind seems to be following the same tactic and that is KickassTorrent, the largest torrent site in the world at the moment, which changed domain and went to Somalia.
According to TorrentFreak, this move is part of the site's annual operating plan. So from now on, instead of the .to extension we knew until now, there will be KickassTorrent.so. This tactical move by the site is to defend itself as much as possible against anti-piracy measures, although its managers themselves know that this is something temporary.
Its millions of users, who were accustomed to accessing directly from their browser URL, instead of using the search engine, will now have to be informed about the new extension. As KickassTorrents states, however, it is directly redirected from the old to the new domain.
Due to KickassTorrent's past legal troubles, many users believed that the move to change the domain was due to new problems facing the site. However, in a new announcement on its blog, KickassTorrents has announced that this is simply a tactical move within the annual plan and nothing will change in the way it operates.
Does KickassTorrent benefit from mobility?
The site benefits significantly from this change, as it will be accessible in several countries until new restrictions are put in place. Of course, this may not last for long, as anti-piracy groups are usually quite quick and effective in their actions to put a site of this kind on the blacklist.
The approximately 1.6 million links that have been blocked by Google will become active again and appear in the search engine, resulting in KickassTorrent rising to the top of the search results. This will temporarily bypass Google's anti-piracy algorithm, which is based on DMCA reports it receives, sending such sites to the bottom pages of search results.
