The 12 rules he followed in his life
Steve Jobs didn't start two of the most successful companies in modern times by following the rules all the time. He faced many obstacles before he succeeded in launching Apple and later Pixar. But he had a unique way of manipulating his own reality, a "warp field" through which he could convince people that his personal beliefs were real facts. And that's how he managed to move those companies forward.
He also used a mix of manipulation tactics to ensure his "victories", especially in his business meetings with some of the most powerful executives in the world, writes Dave Smith in Business Insider.
Read below some of the tactics, rules, and way of thinking that he used in his life, as described through the pages of biography written by Walter Isaacson.
1. Work hard and you will earn the respect of others. Respect is a crucial first step to achieving what you want.
2. Sell with passion. People can be deeply affected by strong emotions. The process of selling yourself or a product is the key to getting someone to buy into your ideas.
3. "Disarm" others with seduction and flattery.
4. Claim that all good ideas are yours – and if you change your mind, defend the new idea with all your might. Memories of the past can be manipulated very easily.
5. Make decisions quickly and decisively. You can always change things later.
6. Be "brutally" honest.
7. Don't wait to fix problems. Fix them now.
8. There are two ways to deal with problematic people: Facing them head-on or…
9. ...to follow the line of "minimum involvement" and ignore them completely.
10. The iron sticks to the boiling water.
11. When you have the power, use it.
12. Demand perfection and don't settle for anything less.
