Even in crisis-ridden Greece, demand for iPhones is exceeding all expectations. And we may not see queues like abroad, but the fact that 10,000 of these phones, which cost more than a month's salary, are being sold in one day is certainly a surprise.
On Friday, the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, Apple's two new smartphones , and according to estimates, around 10,000 units were sold in the Greek market. Those chains that chose to offer pre-orders are said to have already sold out of the units that came with the first wave. On the other hand, the chains (e.g. Vodafone) that chose to simply offer the opportunity for expressions of interest are said to have devices for sale in their stores, but the demand is such that it is expected that by Monday there will not be a device even for a sample. However, new deliveries are expected from next week in order to meet demand. It is noted that according to information, the total number of orders from the chains and mobile telephony providers for the first two months is estimated to reach 50,000.
Mobile phone market executives told Hmerisia.gr that the bulk of the new iPhones that have arrived in Greece are the iPhone 6, the device with the 4.7-inch screen. In fact, it is estimated that approximately 80% are iPhone 6 and the remaining 20% are iPhone 6 Plus, which has a 5.5-inch screen. However, demand for the “large” iPhone 6 Plus is greater than expected.
In addition, demand for the 64 GB models, which are about 100 euros more expensive than the 16 GB versions, is higher than expected. However, the majority of devices that came with the “first wave” have a capacity of 16 GB. The reason for the increased demand is that many users of Apple’s mobile devices saw that iOS 8 is about 7 GB in size, which means that the remaining storage space is not enough to cover the needs of a very large portion of users.
It is worth noting that the new iPhones are anything but cheap. The iPhone 6, with a 4.7-inch screen, starts at 739 euros and is available in gold, space gray and silver. The iPhone 6 Plus with a 5.5-inch screen starts at 859 euros and is also available in gold, space gray and silver.
