In fact, this circuit was officially entered into the Guinness Book of World Records as it operates at a frequency of one trillion cycles per second, breaking the previous record set by a 2012 chip held by the same company, which operated at 850 billion cycles.
This means that every second, a trillion Terahertz waves are produced in the electromagnetic field. This performance places the waves in the frequency range between microwave emissions and the infrared radiation used in night vision goggles.
According to the researchers, the operating frequency of this chip could open up new perspectives for how mobile devices communicate over short distances. The technology could also offer more detailed image production.
For example, radars work by sending waves and measuring the time it takes for them to return to the receiver to calculate the distance to an object. In a similar way, waves of such high frequency could be used to create more detailed images.
