CurrentC, which is a mobile payment system, is supported by Mercantile Exchange (MCX), which sent an email to its users informing them that a malicious actor had obtained the email addresses of some of its users.

“Yes. Within the last 36 hours, we have learned that unauthorized individuals have obtained the email addresses of some CurrentC pilot participants and individuals who had expressed interest in the app. Many of these email addresses are dummy accounts used for testing purposes only. The CurrentC app was not affected.

We have notified our partners of this incident and have contacted each of the individuals whose email were affected directly. The security of our users’ information is critical. MCX continues to investigate the situation and will provide updates as appropriate,” said an MCX spokesperson.
