Apple is expected to unveil a new version of the iPhone in the coming period. At the same time, it is likely to announce agreements with Visa, MasterCard and American Express and release a mobile phone that can also function as a digital wallet.
As Bloomberg reported, citing a source who asked not to be named because the talks between Apple and credit card companies are private. The payments system will turn the next version of the iPhone into a mobile wallet, Bloomberg reported.
Owners of the next-generation phone will be able to easily make payments via a mobile phone that contains a special communication chip. This could be combined with a fingerprint recognition system that already debuted on the latest iPhone and allows consumers to pay their bills and make purchases in various stores securely with just the touch of a finger.
Online media outlets reported earlier Sunday that Apple has reached an agreement with American Express to work together on the payment system for the new iPhone. Apple is scheduled to hold a media event on September 9, prompting rumors that the new phone will also be unveiled, which is likely to have a larger screen than previous-generation iPhones. The new phones are reportedly expected to have 12- and 14-inch screens, compared to the current model's 10-inch screen.
