If you haven't checked Gmail , know that Google has rolled out an updated version of the popular email service that helps you see which of your favorite contacts are online and available via Hangouts.
The new feature comes in the form of a tab at the bottom of the screen that lets you view your contacts. Additionally, the dropdown menu that appears for each entry in the list lets you pin any contact to the top, send an email, start a video call, or hide the contact from the list.
"Starting today, it's much easier to see which of our chat friends are online, thanks to a new tab in Gmail Hangouts. In this new tab, friends who are online appear first, followed by those who are offline.".
"Of course, you can send messages to your offline friends and they'll receive them when they check Hangouts on their computer, phone, or tablet. You can also now pin your favorite contacts (you know, your mom, your bestie, or your crush) so they appear at the top of the list," the Gmail team writes.
