Targeted headlines like "YOU WON'T BELIEVE what he did..." or "Watch the INCREDIBLE video..."
Facebook is taking measures against posts with impressive titles but without substantial content in an effort to protect its users' timelines.
According to Facebook's own research, 80% of its users would prefer to have more information before deciding whether to read an article.
The target, as research analyst Khalid El-Arini announced in a post on his Facebook blog, will be posts with titles such as "YOU WON'T BELIEVE what he did..." or "Watch the INCREDIBLE video...".
To determine whether a post belongs to this specific category, the company developed two criteria:
– the first is reading time as if users click on a link and then return to Facebook the story will likely not meet the expectations created by its title
– the second is “engagement.” That is, if users select a link but do not comment on it, share it, or like it, then the story likely has low credibility.
At the same time, priority will be given to articles that are "uploaded" as links rather than as photos.
