With the forced installation of Facebook Messenger for Android and iOS (except iPad) device users to continue chatting with friends, notifications suddenly became more annoying and more difficult to turn off.
One would expect that through Facebook Messenger's settings there would be the option to disable notifications for each new conversation the user receives, but the application allows temporary deactivation for one hour or until 08:00 the next morning.
So, if you want to permanently disable Facebook Messenger notifications and return to notifications within the main app and the message icon, then follow the steps below.
Disable Facebook Messenger notifications for Android
1) Open your Android device's settings . 2) Select " Applications ". 3) Find and select " Messenger ". 4) Deselect the " Show notifications " option .
The above procedure will disable Messenger notifications, but not the display of chat heads, or the images of the profiles you are chatting with on your device's screen. To disable chat heads:
1) Open the Messenger app . 2) Select the gear icon from the menu to visit settings. 3) Select “ Chat Pictures ”. 4) Finally, change the “Yes” option to “ No ” at the top of the screen.
Disable Facebook Messenger notifications for iOS
1) Open your iOS device's settings . 2) Select " Notifications ". 3) Find and select Facebook " Messenger ". 4) Turn off the " Notification Center " option .
