A report by security firm Kaspersky reveals that the number of mobile banking trojans, which are developed for mobile devices and target banking information, has almost doubled in the second quarter of 2014.
The company's systems detected and recorded a total of 2033 threats, 1.7 times more than in the first quarter of 2014.
The upward trend in mobile banking malware is due to the fact that cybercriminals are turning their attention and becoming increasingly active in the mobile space, as handheld devices continue to gain popularity.
At the top of the list of countries most affected by mobile banking Trojan attacks is Russia, accounting for 91.7% of total attacks, followed by the US with 5.3%.
