The hacktivist group Anonymous has launched a series of attacks (OpWorldCup) targeting various government websites in Brazil, in protest of the hosting of the 2014 World Cup.
The operation was called #OpWorldCup, and it has already had some victims, such as the systems of the Brazilian government’s Globo TV Brasil, the company Cemig Telecommunications, and the Regional Electoral Court of the Amazon. All of the above websites have been hacked and their data has been leaked. The data has already been uploaded and is available on many online services such as Pastebin.
Among the data that has been leaked from the systems of organizations and companies that have been "hit" by hacktivists, in addition to names and email addresses, there are encrypted passwords and phone numbers.
Anonymous reports that they have obtained 450 email addresses and passwords from government employees, 34,000 emails, full names and phone numbers from Eletronorte (Centrais Elétricas do Norte do Brasil SA), a subsidiary of Brazilian Eletrobrás.
The attacks are currently ongoing and are expected to escalate in the coming days.
The data stolen by Anonymous is vast. Some is publicly available, while others are immediately removed from the services they are uploaded to after complaints.
