The case of theft of a laptop and illegal use of the owner's personal information stored on it was investigated by the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate.

A regular case has been opened against a 27-year-old Greek woman living in Livadia for a serious case of theft and breach of personal data. According to the Police, the 27-year-old, using the victim's personal information, created virtual "profiles" on social networking sites.

The case was investigated by the Electronic Crime Prosecution Directorate, regarding the theft of a laptop computer and other items, which were removed from the victim's possession, on public transportation in Athens.

It emerged that the victim's personal files, which were stored on his computer (photos, telephone numbers, identity details, etc.) were illegally used to create virtual "profiles" on social networking sites. Through these pages, slanderous statements against him and false facts about his personality were published.

From further thorough investigation, as well as in-depth analysis of data and evidence, the digital traces of the 27-year-old perpetrator were geographically located, specifically in the area of ​​Livadia.

During a search of her home, in the presence of a judicial officer, the stolen laptop computer was found and seized, which was returned to its owner. The case file will be submitted to the competent Prosecution Authority, while the 27-year-old was not arrested since the period of her arrest had passed.
