Battlespace: The US Army's new virtual reality training system incorporates accurate visualization parameters of the trainee.
It is known that the US Army was among the first to adopt video game technology as part of realistic training of personnel in combat conditions.
Recently, Bohemia Interactive 's new training system, Virtual Battlespace 3, was launched , which is designed for both combat and mission-specific training. It is worth noting that the previous Virtual Battlespace 2 remains the main training simulation system for NATO land forces for the past five years.
The upgraded Battlespace 3 allows for collaboration with other virtual reality platforms, such as DSTS (Dismounted Soldier Training System) and CCTT (Close Combat Tactical Trainer). The combined use of these systems allows the trainee to “enter” the game, using body sensors and virtual reality binoculars.
At the same time, it is notable for its ability to depict the trainee exactly as he or she is in reality. Beyond appearance, the system takes into account performance in the US Army's physical fitness tests and accordingly shapes the avatar of the trainee soldier.
An example is the "stamina bar" that appears on the game screen, which depicts the individual's stamina combined with the ability to move quickly or perform various missions. How quickly this bar "empties" depends on the trainee's actual physical condition.
Additionally, in the context of increasing realism, trainees, through their avatars, cannot choose weapons of their choice, but only those in which they are trained and certified.
According to Ars Technica, Virtual Battlespace 3 allows entire military units to train from anywhere they can access networked computers. In total, over 100 specialized military mission scenarios are provided, and a virtual training area of over four million square kilometers can be supported, with realistic building representation.
