– The message of the Cybercrime Prosecution to all internet users
– Victims are those looking for a job
– The “dangerous” e-mail asks for your financial details and sending money
– How to protect yourself
The Cybercrime Prosecution Service informs internet users to avoid being scammed by misleading e-mails offering jobs, mainly in managerial positions, even in our country with high salaries.
The purpose of these messages is to convince job seekers to send:
– either their personal information and data (identity, passport, tax registration number – A.F.M., etc.)
– or their personal financial data (bank account numbers, personal codes (PIN numbers), credit card numbers, ATM card information, etc.)
– or to be asked to pay an amount in advance in order to take up the supposedly offered job. In fact, in the latter case, they ask for the amounts of money to be sent via money transfer companies and not via bank accounts.
The Cybercrime Prosecution urges internet users not to send their personal and financial data to unknown individuals and to cross-check the existence of the companies offering the jobs and to communicate with them in order to verify the content of the advertisements.
What to watch out for
In particular, it is recommended:
– To cross-check the details of any potential employer, professional or employment agency through a second source or the telephone directory and then to contact the employer directly.
– Do not trust those who, via the Internet, ask you for money in advance to find you a job or offer you a job.
– Never accept to pay for “exclusive” information about jobs or to get a specific position.
– To carefully evaluate the contact details given in online job advertisements or in related e-mails and to pay attention to whether there are any misspellings or an e-mail address that does not mention the company name. Also, pay attention to the writing of the text, where if there are many spelling errors and other inaccuracies, this is a common indication that refers to a fake job advertisement.
– Type in website addresses (URLs) into your browser instead of using hyperlinks when checking job sources.
– Create an email address and an account for all your non-personal communications.
– Pay special attention when contacting companies located outside our country or receiving messages from alleged foreign companies.
– If an “opportunity” or job promises excessively high salaries, which will double in a short period of time, it is probably a misleading – deceptive message. which should be checked.
