Solving cybercrime starts with filing a report

The police are often the last agency an organisation wants to turn to for a security breach that puts the organisation's property, sensitive data or even money at risk – but this needs to change, according to a police crime detective.

"I've heard it said that there are two types of businesses in the world: those that know they've been breached and those that don't," inspector Tim Thomas told ITNews.

Thomas believes that businesses need to be more open about breaches in order to be safer in the long run. He argues that there is a significant difference between the volume of cybercrime discussed in online communities versus the number reported to the police.
