According to data from the analysis company Gartner, Oracle managed to rise to second place among the largest software in the world, surpassing IBM.
In 2013, Oracle's annual revenue amounted to $29.6 billion, an increase of 3.4% compared to 2012. This allowed the company to overtake IBM, which fell to third place with revenue of $29.1 billion.
“Dominant global market trends around big data and analytics, as well as enterprise investments in databases and cloud-based applications, have helped drive Oracle’s growth,” said Gartner vice president Chad Eschinger.
Microsoft, of course, remains the largest software company in the world, with annual revenue of $65.7 billion.
Sap remained in fourth place with revenue of $18.5 billion, while Symantec, EMC, Hewlett-Packard, VMware, CA Technologies and Salesforce.com follow, completing the top ten.
