Japan's Sony Corp has urged owners of its new Vaio Fit 11A laptop models to "immediately" stop using them due to the risk of the battery overheating.
The company said in the statement that it has shipped 25,905 Vaio Fit 11A units to 52 countries since their launch in February. Three of the computers have so far caught fire due to overheating in their batteries, which are made by Panasonic Corp.
"We ask users to immediately turn off their computers, unplug the cable from the computer and from the outlet, and stop using it," the company said in a statement.
Sony is reviewing the inspection and repair procedures that will be offered free of charge to owners and new information will be announced within the next fifteen days.
The Vaio Fit 11A computers are a new laptop model called a “multi-flip” and have the ability to convert into a tablet.
