Technology can't only be good. Inevitably, there will be... bad things, and what happened at the Endure Batavia in Western Australia is one of them. According to an ABC report, on Sunday morning a drone (unmanned aerial vehicle) carrying a camera for aerial shots fell to the ground. One athlete, Raija Ogden, even reported that the drone's fall injured her head!
The company that owned the drone, New Era Photography and Film , and specifically its operator, Warren Abrams, reported that someone interfered with the device's communication with the center, took control of it, and intentionally dropped it to the ground! What do you mean? Hacking! Of course, publications spoke of a fall near the athlete and not on her, however, the photo that was released with Ogden having fallen to the ground bleeding from the head and the "culprit" drone flying above her, probably refutes them.
The issue, of course, is not whether the athlete in question (or any athlete, for that matter) was injured or not, but the fact that the company that owned the drone was not certified to use such a device. And the story continues to unfold and, believe it or not, such cases will often concern us from now on…
