After the acquisition of WhatsApp by Facebook, the team of the most popular Social Network was quick to inform us that both WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger will remain two independent applications. This is confirmed by Facebook's moves, since after the addition of groups and message forwarding, the Messenger application now also supports phone calls via the internet, or VoIP function.
Previously, the voice calling feature over WiFi or 3G/4G was only available to users in the US, but after the update to the FB Messenger apps for Android and iOS, the feature became available to everyone. In the image above, you can see the call screen on Android devices on the left and the call screen on iOS devices on the right.
Finally, let's not forget that WhatsApp is also expected to soon acquire a VoIP voice calling feature, and in fact, the image above, which has been leaked and looks quite similar to the one in Facebook Messenger for iOS, tells us that it won't be long before we see the feature announced.
