The mobile research and analytics company Flurrypublished an interesting study on the use of smartphones with Android and iOS, with the use of applications reaching 86%.
The survey was conducted in the US for the quarter of January-March 2014 and relates to the use of an average user's mobile phone and the distribution of time on it, between applications, games, etc.
As shown in the graph below, 86% of smartphone usage time is spent on applications, with the remaining percentage being spent on browsers for browsing the Internet.
The 86% includes games, which also occupy the largest percentage (32%), while as expected, the Facebook with 17% and then the other social networks with YouTube having a percentage of 4%.
Regarding browsers that occupy a percentage of 14%, Safari comes first with 7% and the remaining percentage is shared among the other browsers mainly due to the variety on Android.
It is striking that applications related to email, while chat applications in total (Viber, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger) reach 9.5% of total smartphone usage.
Finally, as shown in the chart below, compared to last year, users seem to be using applications more and more compared to traditional web browsers.
