The Hellenic Network of Information Technology Professionals (HePIS) and Microsoft Hellas announced the launch of the Get Online Week 2014 campaign, which aims to develop digital skills

An annual campaign aimed at encouraging European citizens to enhance their digital skills, so as to become more competitive in the job market, is launching in more than 30 countries.

In Greece, the Hellenic Network of IT Professionals (HePIS) and Microsoft Hellas announced the launch of the Get Online Week 2014 campaign. This year's event supports the goals for digital employment, as the European Commission calls on businesses, governments, educational institutions and organizations to collaborate with the aim of filling the 500,000 job vacancies in the Information and Communications Technologies sector, which are expected to be created by 2015.

As part of Get Online Week 2014, an event will be organized for students who wish to learn about the prospects and opportunities of the Information and Communications Technologies sector, on Wednesday, April 9, at the DEREE amphitheater.

At the same time, during the pan-European campaign, HePIS will provide 500 free exam vouchers for the Microsoft Office Specialist certification program for the participation of students in the Greek leg of the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship. The Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship is an international competition held in 90 countries and evaluates the skills of students in Microsoft Office. In Greece, it is organized by the certification bodies INFOEST and ACTA – Technovlastos of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education & Religious Affairs.

"The development of digital skills in young children is one of the most critical factors that will help in their more complete training and preparation for the job market. Through our Microsoft Youthspark initiative, we join forces with HePIS to offer as much and better information as possible on this issue, and to provide the appropriate opportunities to the young people of Greece so that they can look forward more optimistically to their professional rehabilitation," said Lia Komninou, director of corporate social responsibility and public relations at Microsoft Greece.
