Opticians from Britain are sounding the alarm for those who overuse their "smart" mobile phones and tablet computers, according to the BBC.
"The light emitted by smart devices is toxic to the back of the eyes," optician Andy Hepworth told the British network.
"Over time, it can cause eye damage. The fact that smart device users don't blink their eyes often, combined with holding the device too close to their face, causes eye strain," he adds.
A recent scientific study in Britain, involving more than 2,000 people under the age of 25, showed that young people "check" their "smart" mobile phones an average of 32 times a day.
The research was conducted by a group of independent opticians, according to whom, a young person spends approximately seven hours a day in front of a screen (a "smart" mobile phone, computer - tablet or even the latest technology flat screen televisions).
Data from the study shows that 43% of people under 25 feel pressure and anxiety when they do not have access to their "smart" mobile phone.
Optician Amanda Said advises: "Get your eyes checked frequently and take long breaks when using smart devices and computers.".
