Mt.Gox, the world's largest Bitcoin exchange, recently declared bankruptcy, saying it had fallen victim to a cyberattack that resulted in the theft of of bitcoins .

The website, which had been down for several weeks, is back online. However, the company, which is still in bankruptcy, only allows users to log in and check their account balances.

The following announcement has been posted on the page:

“The balance confirmation service is provided on this website for the convenience of users only. You should be aware that the amounts listed should not be construed as an acknowledgement by MtGox Ltd of the amount of any recovery claims by users.”

Essentially, nothing changes for MtGox customers, except that they have the ability to check their account balances.

The company's assets are currently being assessed by Japanese authorities and it remains to be seen whether affected users will get their money back, based on the company's total value.

The process for submitting compensation claims will be announced at a later date on the website, according to Mt Gox.
