Can the human body function as a… USB stick? And yet, it can!
With the Connected Paper technology it has developed, Ericsson gives the user the ability to connect a piece of paper to the Internet, instantly transferring all the information to a mobile device.
Ericsson has already carried out a series of related demonstrations, studying in depth the possibilities offered by this new technology. In the latest demonstration, at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, printed electronic elements were used on a piece of paper with a unique identity, and the human body acted as a “cable” that transfers information to a smartphone.
Anything printed with Connected Paper could become a source of information with a simple touch, for example transmitting data such as the ingredients of a food or the translation of a sign.
To do this, Connected Paper carries a small printed antenna and a silicon microchip, using the body as a conductor and the phone as a receiver. However, for transmission to be possible, a broadband Internet connection is required.
