The number of malware targeting mobile devices is increasing day by day, and at a rapid pace. The solution to successfully dealing with threats targeting the Android is provided by security researchers at the University of South Carolina, with the help of the Practical Root Exploit Containment, or PREC, software.
The software has been developed to be able to detect mobile malware that attempts to run Root Exploits on Android devices.
Root Exploits are used by cybercriminals to take full control of smartphones and steal data from the devices.
Prec uses the “Anomaly Detection” detection technique that compares the behavior of a genuine application, such as Google Chrome, with a database containing information about how the application is expected to behave under normal conditions.
“When deviations from normal behavior are detected, PREC analyzes these deviations to determine whether they are malware or harmless 'false positives'.”.
PREC targets code written in C language, which is commonly used by hackers to create malware, and can detect calls made to C code from a Java program.
