While Apple is focused on spreading high-priced smartphones around the world, Mozilla is targeting the low cost of buying smartphones and has announced a deal for a chipset that will pave the way for $25 smartphones.
Mozilla announced at Mobile World Congress that it is working with Spreadtrum, a Shanghai-based company, to design a low-cost Firefox OS smartphone.
Spreadtrum announced plans for Firefox OS on WCDMA and EDGE, as well as the industry's first chipset for the US at a cost of $25, the SC6821, which redefines the entry level for smartphones in developed markets.
