Fujitsu research laboratories have managed to combine NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, gesture recognition and wireless connectivity in a device that could provide access to data by replacing keyboards and touch screens.

Fujitsu's "smart" glove, for which there is no official name yet, is designed for use by workers who do not have access to their mobile phones, touch screens or keyboards and also enables collaboration with screens mounted on an employee's helmet or glasses (HMD, Head-mounted Display).

The glove has a built-in gyroscope sensor and accelerometer located on the wrist, combined with built-in NFC technology. The device can communicate with the HMD or any other device via Bluetooth. In this way, the employee can, while working, access data by manipulating devices through gestures, without having to use their fingers for “physical” typing or contact with a touchscreen.

The device is designed to operate with the lowest possible power consumption, with Fujitsu claiming that it has achieved battery life of up to nine hours. The “smart” glove can recognize up to six basic gestures (up, down, right, left, left rotation and right rotation), while the accuracy of gesture recognition reaches 98%.

Obviously, Fujitsu's proposal deviates from the usual proposals of manufacturers for wearable products. Usually, companies focus their interest on smart-watches or copies of Google Glass. On the contrary, the case of Fujitsu's glove is clearly aimed at workers, especially those in the industrial sector, where the use of thick work gloves or even dirty hands do not allow for the easy use of various devices.
