A small law firm in America has admitted to losing legal documents it had temporarily stored via the Cryptolocker Trojan despite attempting to pay a $300 ransom.
According to reports, the law firm Goodson's, which is located in the capital of North Carolina, is the latest victim of the malware that was designed to demand ransom from the owners of the systems it infected.
The malware infected the company's server, which held thousands of important files, when an employee opened an email containing a malicious attachment. The email appeared to be an error message sent by the company's phone service.
The bug encrypted all files on the server used by the company, including Word, WordPerfect and PDF files.
