Rumors circulating online suggest that LG is preparing to launch its own processor, which will be called Odin.
More specifically, according to the Korean website Digital Times, LG confirms the existence of the Odin processor, which will be released in two alternative versions. One version will be quad-core, with each core clocked at 2.2GHz and with an ARM Mali-T604 GPU, while the second version will have eight cores. In fact, the octa-core Odin may, according to the report, be accompanied by the latest ARM Mali-T760 GPU.
The two SoCs (System on a Chip) are reportedly already under testing, but it is not clear when LG will officially announce them. Also, due to the fact that the Korean company does not have facilities to manufacture SoCs, it will resort to the services of Taiwanese processor manufacturer TMSC.
The report claims that LG will use the quad-core Odin to power its smart TVs, with the octa-core processor reserved for smartphones and tablets. It is possible that the successors to the G2 and G Pad will be equipped with this processor.
At this point, it is worth noting that similar rumors had developed in the past. More specifically, similar publications wanted an LG processor to make its appearance in the first half of 2013, in order to equip the then-expected LG G2. Of course, the G2 was released, but with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor at its heart. Only the future will tell if Odin will finally make its appearance at some point.
