Former US National Security Agency (NSA) technician Edward Snowden, who is accused by his country's authorities of espionage and has been granted temporary asylum in Russia, has submitted his candidacy for the position of rector of the University of Glasgow, the university announced today.
Four people, Edward Snowden, former Scottish cycling champion Graham Aubrey, author Alan Bisset and clergyman Kelvin Holdsworth, are running for the position of rector. The election will take place on February 17 and 18.
All candidates "are capable people, active in public life," the university estimates.
The central role of the dean is to "represent the interests of the students and his choice is entirely up to them," the same source clarifies.
