Today's Google doodle is dedicated to Simone de Beauvoir, on the occasion of the 106th anniversary of her birth – or should we say... "his" birth?
You see, with a mouse over on the doodle (in the Greek version of Google) we are informed that today is the 106th birthday of "Simon de Beauvoir", and while this is obviously an innocent mistake by Google, we cannot help but notice how paradoxical and incongruous this seems, when it comes to one of the most famous feminists of all time!
Simone de Beauvoir, born on January 9, 1908, became famous for her work “The Second Sex,” a groundbreaking feminist analysis of female existence and women’s oppression. She was also the wife of existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre.
