FBI Confession: We Can Activate Any Laptop Camera We Want

FBIThe news dropped like a "bomb" last weekend:

"The FBI has the ability to remotely activate the camera on any laptop without turning on the light that indicates it is recording," said Marcus Thomas, former head of the FBI's Operational Technology Division.

And the above statement was not made to some American tabloid, but to the reputable Washington Post. And worst of all? Thomas emphasized that this FBI practice is not "new technology" but has been going on for many years.

Of course, he clarified that laptop spying is applied in cases of terrorist threat and more generally to protect the US from large-scale criminal acts, but again, it is a practice that does not provide anyone with guarantees for ensuring their privacy and personal data.
