Apple reportedly introducing a revamped version of Siri in iOS 27, evolving the personal assistant into a more capable chatbot and AI agent that can compete with ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. With the Siri upgrade, Apple will make multiple design changes, according to a new report from Bloomberg. Siri will primarily reside in the Dynamic Island in iOS 27, but there will also be a dedicated Siri app for the first time.
When Siri is activated with the wake word “Siri” or via the iPhone side button, an animated pill-shaped image will appear on Dynamic Island. When Siri is asked a question or given a task, there will be a transparent scorecard. Swiping on it will reveal a chat that resembles an iMessage conversation, and will incorporate small cards for the weather, notes, upcoming appointments and other information relevant to the questions.

iOS 27: Siri app for conversations
Apple is also planning a Siri app for conversations with it. It will allow users to look back at past conversations and start new conversations with Siri. There is a grid of rectangles with summaries of past conversations that users can select, a search bar, and a “+” button for starting a new conversation. The app will support sending images and documents, and users will be able to type into Siri or use voice commands.
Swiping down from the center of the screen in any app will activate a system-wide search interface, with a “Search or Query” bar on the Dynamic Island. Search or Query is similar to Spotlight Search, but Bloomberg suggests it will display “more advanced results and additional data from apps.”
Siri will be able to pull information from the web to provide detailed answers to typical questions users ask chatbots. The answers will include bullet points with information and large images.

Selection of other AI chatbots
While Siri is the default for the search bar, tapping on it will allow users to choose other chatbots to chat with, such as ChatGPT or Gemini . Apple plans to allow users to choose third-party AI services as the default for Apple Intelligence features (e.g. Writing Tools and Image Playground), expanding Apple Intelligence integration beyond ChatGPT.
Additionally, Apple is planning to revamp the Image Playground. The interface for creating a new image has fewer controls and a “describe a change” option for editing created images. Already created images are displayed in a grid with more rounded edges, and instead of a “New Image” button, there’s a “+” button. Apple has also been testing new models that produce more realistic images, so we could see new image creation features in iOS 27.
Apple is also planning changes to the Camera app, Photos app , Wallet , and Shortcuts , and there may be tweaks to Liquid Glass .
With iOS 27, Apple appears poised to make the biggest Siri transformation since its debut, transforming it from a simple voice assistant into a full-fledged AI platform. The new approach clearly shows that the company no longer wants to passively watch the evolution of AI chatbots, but to compete directly with services like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude within the iPhone ecosystem itself. Siri’s integration into Dynamic Island, messaging-style dialogue capabilities, and the new Chat app suggest that Apple is investing in a more natural and interactive user experience, where AI will constantly be at the center of everyday interaction with the device.

At the same time, Apple’s decision to allow third-party AI models to be selected within Apple Intelligence suggests a more “open” strategy than we’ve been used to in previous years. If confirmed, users will be able to tailor their AI experience to their needs, choosing different chatbots for search, content creation , and productivity. This could significantly change the balance of the AI market, as the iPhone will become a single gateway to multiple AI ecosystems. At the same time, updates to apps like Image Playground and Photos show that Apple wants to integrate generative AI into every aspect of iOS, paving the way for a new era of “AI-first” experiences on mobile devices.
