Apple is preparing to introduce another major upgrade to its ecosystem, this time focusing on the Safari. According to information obtained from test versions of the company's upcoming operating systems, the browser is getting a new feature that automatically organizes tabs with the help of artificial intelligence, aspiring to change the way users manage their daily web browsing.

The new feature is expected to make its official debut at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026), Apple's annual developer conference, where the company traditionally reveals the most important developments in its software ecosystem.
From Tab Groups to smart content management
Apple first introduced Tab Groups in 2021 with the release of Safari 15, allowing users to organize open pages into themed groups. The feature has become particularly popular with those working on multiple projects at the same time, separating work, personal, and research browsing.
Five years later, the company seems ready to evolve this tool. In the beta versions of iOS 27, iPadOS 27 , and macOS 27, a new option called “Organize Tabs”, which allows automatic sorting based on the content of open tabs.

In practice, the browser will analyze the pages the user has opened and group them thematically. For example, tabs related to online shopping, professional research, travel planning, or streaming services could be automatically sorted into separate sections.
Artificial intelligence in the background
Although Apple does not appear to officially include the feature under the Apple Intelligence, everything indicates that it is based on artificial intelligence and contextual understanding mechanisms.

The approach is reminiscent of similar features that have already appeared in the Reminders, where the system can automatically recognize patterns and sort list items into categories.
This suggests that Apple is gradually expanding machine learning into everyday tools, without necessarily advertising them as "AI features", following its well-known strategy of incorporating new technologies in a discreet way.
Why this change matters more than it seems
Automatic tab organization may sound like a small improvement, but it addresses a real problem of modern digital life: the so-called tab overload.

Research shows that the average browser user keeps dozens of tabs open every day, many of which remain active for days or even weeks. This creates cognitive overload, reduces productivity , and makes it difficult to get back to important content.
By leveraging AI for automatic sorting, Safari aims to make browsing a more organized and less chaotic experience, especially for professionals, students, and power users.
WWDC 2026 and Apple's broader AI strategy
The Safari upgrade is just one part of Apple's broader plan for its next-generation operating systems.
Information indicates that in iOS 27 , users will be able to choose different artificial intelligence models, expanding the company's collaboration with AI platforms.
At the same time, Optical Intelligence is expected to be integrated directly into the Camera app, allowing faster recognition of objects, scenes and information in real time.

Upgrades are also planned for the app Photos, with new tools such as smart image expansion, context-aware editing, detail enhancement, and advanced frame reframing capabilities.

The message behind the changes
Apple appears to be investing in a different model of AI integration: less flashy demonstrations and more practical applications that improve the everyday experience.
If the smart tab organization proves effective in practice, it may become one of the most useful – and underrated – features of the company's next generation of software, confirming that the future of artificial intelligence lies in the invisible, but essential improvements to everyday life.
