Lenovo has unveiled the ThinkBook Modular AI PC Concept, a revolutionary laptop that combines removable ports with a second display, offering a new approach to modular design. The concept device features a 14-inch primary display and a second 14-inch display that magnetically attaches to the back of the lid, while also offering two plug-and-play removable ports that can be swapped out depending on the user’s needs.

The ThinkBook Modular AI PC is a testament to two innovative concepts at once. The second display is fully removable and can be placed on a magnetic kickstand that stores underneath the laptop, connecting via USB-C . Lenovo went a step further, allowing the keyboard/trackpad deck to be removed and replaced with the second display, turning the system into a dual-screen laptop that can be used with a Bluetooth keyboard and trackpad, similar to the Asus Zenbook Duo .
The modular ports are the most striking feature of the concept. Lenovo showed off options that include USB-C, USB-A , and HDMI ports, though the ecosystem isn't quite as extensive as the Framework. Unlike the Framework, the hotswap ports use an M.2 interface to connect to the laptop instead of USB-C, making them extremely easy to remove and reinsert. The company also showed off a sleek carrying case for the extra ports.

Both displays are OLED with touch, feature a 16:10 4K (3840 x 2400), 120Hz refresh rate, and 500 nits of brightness. Preliminary specifications include an Intel Core Ultra 7 255H Arrow Lake, 32GB of RAM , and a 1TB SSD. The system incorporates a Neural Processing Unit (NPU) that powers Lenovo AI Now, allowing the laptop to recognize which module is installed and adjust software and hardware performance accordingly. Lenovo has developed the Magic Bay ecosystem , a modular accessory platform that aims to create a proprietary ecosystem of AI-powered attachments. This approach differs from Framework in that it targets the enterprise/SMB segment rather than consumers, incorporating AI intelligence that adapts to changes in the modules.
