In a move that is redefining the global tech scene, OpenAI has completed a new funding round $110 billion, more than double last year’s landmark funding round. The deal values the company at $730 billion before the new funding (up from $500 billion in a secondary deal in October). It is the largest funding round ever for a private tech company, confirming that artificial intelligence remains the hottest bet on the markets.
The investment giants behind the deal
The round was led by three giants: Amazon with $50 billion, Nvidia with $30 billion, and SoftBank with $30 billion. According to the company, other investors may join as the round remains open.

CEO Sam Altman called the deal “decisive for the next phase of artificial intelligence,” noting that demand for computing power is growing exponentially. He noted that AI is already transforming every sector of the economy, from financial services to healthcare to manufacturing.
Strategic alliance with Amazon and 100 billion in AWS
In addition to the investment, Amazon announced a multi-year strategic partnership with OpenAI. The two companies will develop custom models for applications aimed at Amazon customers, boosting the use of generative AI in e-commerce and cloud services.
OpenAI is also expanding its agreement with Amazon Web Services by $100 billion over eight years, on top of its existing $38 billion agreement. AWS will be the exclusive cloud delivery provider for the company’s platform Frontier, marking a deeper technology tie-up. Amazon’s initial commitment is $15 billion, with the remaining $35 billion to be disbursed under certain conditions in the coming months.

The relationship with Microsoft remains "central"
Despite strengthening ties with Amazon, OpenAI clarified that the terms of its strategic partnership with Microsoft, a key funder since 2019, remain unchanged. The two sides confirmed that their alliance remains strong and pivotal for the development of AI services at the enterprise and consumer levels.
Nvidia and the race for computing power
The expanded partnership with Nvidia underscores the importance of GPUs in the era of generative AI. OpenAI will leverage three gigawatts of dedicated inference power and two gigawatts of training power on Vera Rubin . In practical terms, this means faster model development and greater availability of services to enterprises and end users.
The company estimates that total computing spending will reach $600 billion by 2030, a lower number than previous estimates but with a clearer timeline. The revision reflects growing market concerns about whether the massive investments can translate into corresponding revenue.

Competition and revenue prospects
